Troopers Investigating Two Separate Fatal Crashes in Calcasieu Parish

 

Bell City – On October 5, 2026, shortly before 10:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 27 near Pine Pasture Road. The crash claimed the life of a 27-year-old man of Lake Charles.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Toyota Prius was traveling north on LA Hwy 27. At the same time, a 2023 Ford F-150 was traveling south on LA Hwy 27. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota crossed the center line and struck the Ford head-on in the southbound lane.

The driver of the Toyota, who was properly restrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Ford, who was not properly restrained, sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Impairment is not suspected; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Sulphur – On October 5, 2026, shortly after 12:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 westbound near mile marker 25. The crash claimed the life of a 41-year-old man of Houston, Texas.

 

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling east on Interstate 10. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet exited the roadway to the left, crossed the median, entered the westbound lanes, and struck a 2022 Infiniti QX80 that was traveling westbound on Interstate 10. Following the initial impact the Infiniti overturned, and the Chevrolet was struck on the right side by a 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser traveling westbound in the center lane.

 

The driver of the Chevrolet, who was properly restrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The drivers and passengers of both the Infinity and Toyota were both properly restrained, sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Impairment is unknown; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
